Crystal Palace vs Arsenal LIVE: Stream, TV channel, team news and kick-off time – Premier League latest

ALL eyes are on Arsenal as they begin the Premier League season against Crystal Palace – and they will NOT want a repeat of the last year.

The Gunners were humiliated by Brentford on the opening day of the 2021/22 campaign.

And they were bottom of the table by the first international break with NINE goals conceded and ZERO scored.

However, hope has been restored amongst the Arsenal camp as summer signings Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko will hope to hit the ground running in their Premier League debuts for the club.

But the North London outfit have only beaten Crystal Palace three times in their last ten encounters.

Team news

Patrick Vieira seems to be having goalkeeper troubles ahead of the huge opening clash against his former side as a player.

Jack Butland’s broken hand has ruled him out of the clash but Sam Johnstone is close to recovering from his thigh problem.

Mikel Arteta has been forced to be without the quartet of Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe.

But the Arsenal boss confirmed after the thrashing on Sevilla, that ‘most’ of them will be ready.

Arteta said: “They’ll have to go through what they need to this week and then hopefully we’ll have them available.

“They are lacking minutes but we’ll have to build that up like any other injury that we get during the season.”

  • Viera discusses pressure

Crystal Palace reached new heights last season, reaching the FA Cup final whilst doing the double over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Fans will be hoping they can build on last season and achieve a top-half finish this season.

Eagles boss Patrick Viera had his say on how to deal with the increasing expectation on his players:

I think it’s the expectation. From the way we performed last year, people will expect more from Palace so this is something that as a football club, we will have to manage. We have to live with this kind of expectation, this kind of pressure on our shoulders. We want to keep going where we finished last year.

  • Arteta gives injury update

Mikel Arteta says three of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Emile Smith Rowe, Kieran Tierney and Fabio Vieira have returned to training and will be considered for selection.

He commented: “Three out of four of those players [Tomiyasu, Smith Rowe, Tierney, Vieira] are going to be training this afternoon and if everything goes well, they will be available for selection and in the squad.

“Hopefully, we can start to recover because they’ve been missing a lot of minutes and time in pre-season and they are really important players for us.”

  • Jesus to win disciples with ‘contagious’ mentality

Mikel Arteta has been full of praise for new signing Gabriel Jesus, who is set to start up front.

He said of the former Man City ace: “When you bring top players, they are coming from top clubs and they have been extremely successful over the years, they’re going to expect that.

“The role that Gabby has here is going to be very different to the role that Gabby had in his previous club.

“That needs some adaptation and some time. He’s done it fantastically well and we’re all surprised how quickly he’s done it, but we have to share that responsibility and he’s an enormous talent.

“A player with a mentality that is so contagious and he’s going to give us a lot, but it’s a team contribution at the end of the day.”

  • Ready to go

The Premier League is back with a London derby as Arsenal head to Crystal Palace.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners threw away a Champions League place in the dying stages of last season with away defeats to rivals Spurs and Newcastle.

But they have strengthened over the summer with the signings of Man City duo Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, Porto’s Fabio Vieira and Sao Paulo’s Marquinhos.

And they couldn’t have a better chance to prove things will be different on the road this season as they head to Crystal Palace.

When they visited Selhurst Park last season they were overwhelmed by the Eagles and the intimidating crowd as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat.

Jean-Philippe Mateta, Jordan Ayew and Wilfried Zaha bagged the goals for Palace that day.

But the Eagles will have to contend with the loss of key midfielder Connor Gallagher, who has returned to parent club Chelsea after the end of his loan deal.

Patrick Vieira’s men have had a relatively subdued transfer window so far, forking out a total of just £30m, compared to Arsenal’s £120m.

Midfielder Cheikh Doucoure joined for around £20m from Ligue 1 side Lens while American defender Chris Richards signed for approximately £11m from Bayern Munich.

Former Man Utd goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was also snapped up on a free transfer as was Derby winger Malcolm Ebiowei.

And as always, Arsenal will have to contend with the pace and trickery of talismanic Palace winger Wilfried Zaha if they are to get a result.
