In Joe Joyce it seems the heavyweight division has a new comedian now Tyson Fury has hung up his gloves.
Yesterday it was announced the long-awaited Joe Joyce vs Joseph Parker fight will finally be going ahead on September 24 and the pair came face to face at a press conference.
Queensbury promotions’ Dev Sahni led proceedings and as the press conference wore on, he asked Parker whether he thought he could hurt Joyce, who is renowned for being extremely robust.
Parker replied immediately with confidence, “I will hurt him.”
But Joyce’s response on the other side of the table saw the room, and Parker, erupt into laughter.
“Little Joe’s going to tickle me on September 24,” he said in a high-pitched voice.
Although, this time Parker found it less amusing, as he responded, “Yeah, I will, and I’ll slap you and punch you and everything else.”
At this point Joyce channelled his inner Jay Cartwright from The Inbetweeners and said, “Oooh, you’re hard.”

Sahni chimed in to get things back on track saying, “Clearly, they’re both hard.”
But, Joyce was not done with his quick quips yet, as he replied, “Not in that way,” and both sides of the table began laughing once again.
This is not the Joyce we are used to seeing, who is usually far more reserved and serious in the build-up to fights, but at a time when Fury has retired and boxing is in need of another character, Joyce’s new persona is a welcome addition to the heavyweight division.
Come fight night, Joyce’s smile will be gone and we will undoubtedly see a much more serious side to him considering what’s on the line.
With Joyce ranked No. 1 with the WBO and Parker in the No. 2 position, the winner of this fight will most likely become the mandatory challenger for the WBO world title and next up to fight the winner of Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk 2.
