At the opening match of the tournament between the hosts and Ecuador on Sunday, fans dressed in their national colors stayed behind to collect bottles and food packaging left in the stands.

The country has built a reputation for similar goodwill at previous international tournaments and their admirable behavior has already garnered praise in the Middle East.

During the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Japanese fans garnered similar affection for their neighborly behavior.

Even after a gut-wrenching last gasp winner in a 3-2 knockout defeat to Belgium, the ‘Samurai Blue’ supporters roamed the aisles of the Rostov Arena picking up discarded rubbish.

Supporters were seen crying as they dragged huge garbage bags around the stadium.

Photos from the stadium show fans in costume and national team uniforms picking up the rubbish after most of the other fans had cleared away.
