MAFS UK star Sophie Brown wows in slinky satin dress for a night on the town after body-shaming row

Married At First Sight star Sophie Brown shrugged off recent drama with her co-stars as she enjoyed a night out in her home city of Manchester on Sunday.

Sophie ignored the freezing temperatures, heading out to Menagerie Bar and Restaurant without her coat to show off her sizzling look.

The night out comes after Sophie’s MAFS UK co-star Amy Christophers told MailOnline she has been left ‘utterly devastated’ after Sophie and Adrian Sanderson were accused of ‘allowing’ body shaming remarks about her on their joint Instagram Live.

Sophie looked in good spirits on Sunday, strutting to the restaurant in a figure-hugging pink satin dress.

She teamed the bodycon number with hot pink heels and a matching bag, beaming for snappers before heading inside for cocktails.

Hours earlier, Sophie’s co-star Amy exclusively told MailOnline via her representative that she was ‘shocked’ to learn of the trolling incident in which Sophie and Adrian were criticised for not turning the comments facility off ‘straight away’ on their Instagram Live.

While Sophie, 26, and Adrian, 37, who starred in MAFS’ 2022 series, have maintained they did not notice the hurtful messages, a screen recording from the public video call shows them acknowledging the trolling and laughing about it.

Despite not being part of the video, the comments were targeted at Amy, who appeared in the 2021 installment.

The Cornwall-native, who claims to have never spoken to Sophie, cannot believe both she and Adrian would allow online abuse about her to take place on an Instagram Live and that they would make fun of it too.

At one point, Adrian can be heard laughing while saying, ‘Just reading some of the comments. It’s difficult guys because I saw these comments… can’t read out loud!’ to which Sophie replies: ‘Yeah.’

Following the controversy, Amy’s manager has told MailOnline: ‘Amy is utterly devastated that this has happened.

‘She rightly felt safe within the MAFS family and mistakenly assumed the support and care her fellow castmates show for each other would lead by example for the new cast.

‘She is shocked that they not only allowed the online abuse to continue in the comments, but also laughed about it when they said they couldn’t read the comments out loud.

‘Amy would have reacted very differently and told the audience to stop the nasty comments.’

The former glamour model, who has previously been open about suffering a miscarriage with twins, found the recent trolling to be a ‘set back’ with her body-image struggles, the representative added.

They said: ‘Since losing her twins, Amy has had an ongoing battle with learning to love her body again and this is a low blow that has only caused her to be set back with her struggles.

‘Thankfully her friends, family and MAFS family are rallying round her to offer support and help her get through this tough time.

‘In her younger days across a 10 year career of modelling, she’s had her size and even what she wore criticised, even when she was at her smallest size of only a 6.

‘Whilst she developed a thick skin to comments about her size the timing of this onslaught couldn’t be worse as it is three years ago today that she discovered one of her twins had died in utero.

‘Since pregnancy, it’s been a long time for her to adjust to the changes in her body and learn to love it again.

‘Amy is a firm believer in supporting one another as they all have a shared experience in Married At First Sight that no one else can understand and she is deeply upset to know that this doesn’t seem to apply with certain members of the latest series, despite them having been given no reason to engage in such horrendous behaviour.

‘What’s most upsetting is that they are the first to preach about #BeKind and anti online abuse when they are on the receiving end, however they have sent out the mixed message of allowing and even sniggering at online abuse directed to Amy – which only encourages trolling rather than shutting it down immediately.

‘Amy doesn’t want to fuel any hatred of abuse to the cast members involved. It was an unfortunate event that Amy hopes everyone can learn lessons from.’

MailOnline has contacted Sophie and Adrian’s representatives for comment.

Marilyse Corrigan, who starred in the same season as Amy, jumped to her castmates’ defence straight away.

Posting to her Instagram, Marilyse said: ‘Really sad to witness an Instagram Live last night between two cast members whilst the comments were body shaming / belittling @thatsportsspice (Amy) and the comments were left on!

‘I would have thought the ‘MAFS family’ would know better by now. Shame on all involved.

‘Amy is beautiful inside and out. She’s a curvy, petite young woman who inspires lots of girls and isn’t and shouldn’t be ashamed of her body.’

Amy then reposted Marilyse’s story, thanking her and saying: ‘Really sad to get sent screen recordings of the comments and lots of unsolicited opinions and comments on my shape, body and weight. I’ll be addressing this properly at a later stage.’

She then added in another story: ‘Sophie is a beautiful girl. I have no ill feelings against her, as I hope she doesn’t for me.

‘It’s a shame as another curvy girl who also received negative comments about size she didn’t stand in solidarity and shut the comments down straight away.’

Following backlash, Sophie and Adrian both responded publicly, saying they were not aware of the comments taking place and condemned the fact they were made.

Sophie said: ‘I am not one to comment on situations that much, but when it’s about body image I absolutely will be there. I was made aware of some comments made on lives, and no one should have to go through that.

‘I know exactly how it feels which makes it worse. I was called chubby and fat throughout the show. Whatever someone’s intentions were, there was a conversation around my body type on the show. I’ve had that backlash and I know how it feels.

‘It’s a very painful thing to have to deal with, and it’s a very sensitive topic. I don’t condone any behaviour that’s aimed towards anyone, anyone that comments on someone’s body online is horrific.

‘Who is anyone to comment on anyone’s size? It’s so difficult, because there was a situation where someone said what their preferences were and now that’s being used where people are compared and people’s body sizes are talked about. I never wanted to be a part of that.

‘I would never want anything like that near or on my page, I like to have a positive platform. Body image is something very sensitive to a lot of people and should not be talked about.’

Adrian also responded on his Stories, saying: ‘I’m not exactly sure what was said, it was in the comments on the live.

‘I’ve asked for screen recordings so I’m able to see who said it and I can block them from Instagram. I wish Marilyse had told me at the time so I would have been able to shut it down.

‘I will never condone this hate online, and I hope we can continue to be kind in the future.’

It comes after viewers were left ‘cringing’ as they watched awkward romantic scenes between Amy and Jonathan during Sunday’s Christmas reunion episode.

One in particular was from Johnathan Wileman, who Sophie married on the show

Old flames: Other Married at First Sight UK contestants also weighed in on the situation – but one in particular was from Jonathan Wileman, who Sophie married on the show

Jonathan said on his Stories: ‘After the cringefest that was the MAFS Christmas special, I thought I’d address the s**tshow of comments that have followed and were also made throughout the series.

‘The behaviour of some people and particularly the comments made after last night’s show have been nothing short of disgusting. My original comments about my preferences were just that.

‘They were never directed at any individuals at all within the series. Neither were they being negative about any body type. They were simply a personal preference.

‘What one person finds attractive, another may not – whether that be physical, emotional or personality. Both Sophie and Amy are beautiful women – neither deserving of the vile comments directed at them.

‘The hypocrisy of some people following the airing of the shows has been disgraceful.’

The special saw some of this year’s stars make a comeback for this weekend’s instalment while they were joined by a number of cast members from 2021’s series.

And, as Amy appeared to take a liking to Jonathan, viewers were reminded of some harsh comments he made during his season.

Jonathan boldly admitted he didn’t like people with ‘horse legs’, and said: ‘I never personally want a girl that’s huge like bodybuilder legs and a body builder body.’

Struggling to understand why Amy was eyeing-up Jonathan, one viewer wrote on Twitter: ‘It’s mad because Jonathan is saying he doesn’t like bigger girls but Amy is no stick insect (not that there’s anything up with her).’

Noting that Amy made a beeline for Jonathan right away, someone else wrote: ‘Amy came to the dinner on a mission and that mission was Jonathan. I like a girl who knows what she wants and how to get it.’

While another viewer noted: ‘Amy is thirsty AF. She would eat Jonathan alive.’

However, despite viewers concerns, Amy and Jonathan shared a kiss under the mistletoe later in the episode.
