Bad Bunny commented on a clip online Monday after he was caught on camera throwing a fan’s phone into a nearby body of water after she took a selfie with him.
The 28-year-old rapper – who had been charitable for children in his native Puerto Rico over the past holiday season – was seen online in a clip showing him walking along an oceanfront boardwalk in the Dominican Republic, TMZ reported Monday, when a fan sat down next to him to take a selfie.
In a clip posted to Twitter, the artist, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was seen grabbing the phone from the woman’s hand and launching it toward the ocean, prompting groans from those who witnessed the incident.

The resident of Almirante Sur, Puerto Rico, then took to Twitter to explain his side of the incident, saying he felt disrespected that the fan hadn’t both addressed him before approaching him for the selfie.
He wrote in Spanish: ‘La persona que se acerque a mi a saludarme, a decirme algo, o solo conocerme, siempre recibirá mi atención y respeto. If you notice a call with a c***** telefono, you will get a wrong answer to your “#SINCOJONESMETIENE.”
Translated, the tweet read: “The person who comes up to say hello, tell me something or just meet me will always get my attention and respect. Those who come and put a phone in my face, I’ll take it for what it is, a lack of respect, and I’ll treat it the same way.’
Bad Bunny’s statement provoked a slew of mixed reactions, as some defended the artist, while others were critical of his behavior.

Influencer Un Tal Fredo said: ‘Let’s normalize the fact that artists are human beings and deserve to always be treated with respect. Under the stage they’re not a show, you can’t record them without their permission. Approach, say hello and ask for permission.”
Another user said, ‘Look folks, this is simple. Respect and everything will be fine. Common sense.
‘Artist or not, be aware that we are all the same. Maybe ditching the phone wasn’t the best idea, but you know what it’s like to have your space invaded 24/7? Much respect and love has been given to ALL of you.”

“Someone gave you a ‘F***ing phone’, maybe that girl… tried really hard to buy that phone and you can throw it away in seconds,” the user said.
Another said, “No apologies, you could calmly ask the fan to leave and not throw the phone at her, remember that what you are now is thanks to your audience. I’m not going out, period.’
